What happened there: During the War of the Lance, Laurana and the good armies saved Kalaman and were honored there. Kitiara sent Laurana a message while she was there saying that she had Tanis and he was dying and wished to see her before he did. Laurana buys it and is captured by Kitiara’s people, and the war is nearly lost. But Tanis, who arrives in Kalaman a couple days too late, goes off with Tas, Tika, Caramon, and Barem to rescue her, which they of coarse succeed in doing and win the war and all of that.
After the War of the Lance, Gilthanis becomes Governor of Kalaman, and he’s happy helping the people, but then he realizes that he’s not needed, so he goes to check on Porthios, and ends up running around and stuff, but finally makes it back to Kalaman during his search for Silvara. One of the people working for the Lord there tells him to wait and be Governor for a while, while he sends men looking for Silvara. Gilthanis fixes Kalaman up a bit (after he left the market closed and it was a mess, and not too many ships came), but then he finds out that he was being lied to, and he finds a place where Silvara might be, and leaves.
